Vesely Architekten took on the role of general contractor for the residential studio project for the “Living for young disabled people” foundation. The aim of creating contemporary living space while preserving what already exists is a paradox in itself. Because with every change to the existing structure, something of the “old” is lost. It was important to us to change perspective and focus on what can be gained through a conversion. Through close and enriching cooperation with the monument protection authorities, we managed to restore the old house’s dignity and splendor without losing its original character. A new interior construction with existing and new, load-bearing elements created a new spatial experience without damaging the existing shell.
